  • Mortgage rates above 6% now account for 21.2% of all active residential mortgages (highest since 2015), while mortgages below 3% have fallen to 20% — the first time since 2019 that higher-rate mortgages outnumber ultra-low-rate loans. 1

  • China surpassed Japan in 2023 as the world’s largest auto exporter, shipping 7.1 million vehicles last year, up from 5.9 million the prior year. Now, Chinese car company BYD has overtaken Tesla as the world’s biggest EV seller. 3


  • A record 20.3% of new car buyers who financed purchases committed to monthly payments over $1,000 in Q4 2025, while the average financed car payment reached an all-time high of $772. 1
